Fire on La Palma
After a late breakfast and a bit of gentile reading on the balcony I
thought I’d just check what was happening in the world, only to discover
that the fire I mentioned yesterday is now on the main news headlines of
the international BBC website! Seems the fire was thought to have been
started by a stray firework. Tourists can’t get back to the airport,
and I assume that after landing they can’t get to the resorts in the
west of the island.
Thankfully (for me) I am not in that part of the island. I am on the
east side, along with the airport. Being so close to the airport I have
seen far more planes today. There are not usually any until evening
time but I have seen military helicopters flying over and a couple of
other small turbo prop planes. I wonder if one had the Spanish
president on board?

[...] The big news here in La Palma is that there are forrest fires. As the island is not too big they are quite close, but thankfully the wind is blowing them away from me. More details on the holiday blog. [...]
